Kinsa is recruiting for an R&D Food Scientist
Location: San Antonio, TX (100% onsite, with relocation assistance)

With 50+ years under their belts, our client is a multi-site co-manufacturer with a wide range of capabilities, primarily baked goods. With a powerful and flexible combination of capabilities and capacity for manufacturing and logistics, they a variety of foodservice and retail clients. We are helping them find an R&D food scientist to tackle important product development and optimization projects. You’ll need the demeanor to work cross-functionally within the organization and externally to support clients and stakeholders.

  • BS in Food Science or a related field required. Some experience with baked goods, ideally food bars or extended.shelf-life foods. No sponsorships.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • $90-100K base salary plus generous bonus

Key Responsibilities and Goals:

  • Conceptualize and develop a wide range of bakery products including breads, cakes, cookies, bagels, pastries, and bars, tailored to meet consumer trends and market demands.
  • Formulate innovative products that align with customer expectations for nutritional value, shelf-life, ingredient transparency, and specific product attributes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define and document manufacturing processes, and lead plant trials, pilot runs, and product launches.
  • Create and maintain detailed finished product and process specifications for internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Act as a technical expert, supporting business channel managers by providing insights on ingredient functionality and application.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently, ensuring deadlines are met through strong project management and prioritization skills.
  • Design compliant nutrition labels and ingredient statements.
  • Conduct shelf-life studies, analyze results, and document findings to ensure extended product stability and quality.
  • Partner with purchasing, suppliers, and vendors to source high-quality, cost-effective ingredients and materials for food production.
  • Maintain strict adherence to quality standards and safety regulations in all aspects of product development and production.

Competencies Needed for Success:

  • BS in Food Science or a related field required. Additional culinary education preferred.
  • Experience in product devekopment involving bakery or pastry, ideally including bars.
  • Knowledge of extended shelf-life formulations and studies.
  • Knowledge of food safety, FDA regulations, sensory evaluation and food labeling.
