This is a true working leadership role for someone who is comfortable spending significant time on the plant floor, leading employees directly, solving problems in real time, and taking ownership of production, food safety, labor, costs, yields, and customer satisfaction. The operation processes approximately 50 head per week and requires a leader who understands both the technical and practical realities of meat processing.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Base Salary negotiable for right candidate
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Paid holidays and PTO
  • Relocation Assistance

Key Responsibilities and Goals:

  • Provide hands-on leadership for daily harvest, fabrication, processing, cut/wrap, and value-added operations, stepping into production when needed to keep the operation moving.
  • Maintain compliance with USDA/FSIS requirements, HACCP plans, SSOPs, and GMPs, serving as the primary contact for USDA inspectors and addressing non-compliance issues and corrective actions.
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of approximately 35–40 employees, with an emphasis on cross-training, attendance, accountability, safety, and consistent execution.
  • Manage production scheduling and throughput while balancing harvest, fabrication, cooler/freezer capacity, packaging, equipment availability, and staffing.
  • Manage plant-level costs including labor, overtime, supplies, shrink, waste, and yields, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Build strong relationships with livestock producers and customers, managing expectations around scheduling, cut specifications, yields, product quality, and order accuracy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and audit-ready facility while ensuring proper equipment operation, PPE compliance, and safe production practices.

Competencies Needed for Success:

  • 5+ years of meat processing experience in harvest and/or fabrication, including direct experience within a USDA-inspected facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of USDA/FSIS requirements, HACCP, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead employees in a hands-on, physically demanding production environment and willingness to jump in and work alongside the team when necessary.
  • Practical understanding of meat yields, trim, shrink, fabrication, throughput, and the operational factors that drive profitability.
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude with the ability to respond quickly to staffing shortages, equipment issues, production bottlenecks, and changing priorities.
  • Experience supervising or managing a meat processing facility and firsthand knowledge of carcass breakdown, labeling compliance, and inspected versus custom-exempt processing are highly desirable.
